Faculty Guidance

Recommended Do and Don't

DOs

  • DO clearly disclose any AI usage in syllabi and teaching materials (also models transparency for students).
  • DO design assignments that are “AI-resistant” or “AI-permissive” with explicit guidelines on acceptable vs. unacceptable use.
  • DO use AI to brainstorm lesson plans, teaching strategies, or rubrics — without student PII included.
  • DO encourage students to think critically about AI outputs (bias, errors, limitations).
  • DO use AI to reduce workload in non-sensitive contexts (e.g., drafting course announcements, generating quiz practice questions).

DON’Ts

  • DON’T upload student essays, projects, or identifiable work into AI tools (FERPA violation).
  • DON’T rely on AI for grading or feedback on student submissions — unless anonymized and clearly allowed by policy and syllabus disclosure.
  • DON’T misrepresent AI-generated content as your own original scholarship or teaching material.
  • DON’T build lesson content with AI that includes sensitive or restricted datasets (e.g., unpublished tests, assessments).
  • DON’T mandate student academic use of free AI accounts (could expose their data outside protections).

It is at the discretion of the faculty member whether to use Generative AI in the classroom. 糖心vlog视频 requires that faculty communicate to students about the use of AI via their syllabus, and we have created a for this purpose.

Faculty who use AI in the classroom should provide clear guidelines around AI use in the class for graded and ungraded assignments, self-study outside of class, and support through other 糖心vlog视频 avenues, as well as a disclosure statement if AI is used for other pedagogical aspects such as assignment building or grading.

Faculty are asked to become familiar with 糖心vlog视频’s guidance around privacy and data security. It is important to remember that having access to data does not imply permission to scrape the data or use it to train an AI model.

Faculty are encouraged to consult 糖心vlog视频's AI-specific guides on topics such as "”; ""; ""; ""; ""; ""; and "."

Faculty members are encouraged to open conversations and discussions with students about AI use within their discipline and to foster a culture of curiosity. 糖心vlog视频 is curating resources for faculty to explore and share about AI, including links specifically designed to address AI by the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE), , and the .
