Perkins Announces Search for LeVan Chair in Worship and Preaching
DALLAS (ÌÇÐÄvlogÊÓÆµ) – Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University (ÌÇÐÄvlogÊÓÆµ) announces a search for a full-time faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in Worship and Preaching to fill the LeVan Chair in Preaching and Worship, beginning August 2026.
The successful candidate will join Perkins’ distinguished faculty in teaching and scholarship in the fields of Worship and Preaching, serving students in the Master of Divinity (M.Div.), Master of Arts in Ministry (M.A.M.), Master of Sacred Music (M.S.M.), and continuing education programs. This is a tenure-track or tenured position.
Responsibilities
The faculty member will teach across Perkins’ degree programs and formats (in-person, online, and hybrid) and may also teach in the Ph.D. program of ÌÇÐÄvlogÊÓÆµ’s Graduate Program in Religious Studies. Responsibilities include scholarship and publication in Worship, teaching in Preaching, and active participation in the governance and community life of Perkins and the broader ÌÇÐÄvlogÊÓÆµ academic community.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree and demonstrate achievement or promise as both scholar and teacher in Worship, with ability to teach in Preaching. Candidates should show a commitment to the mission of Perkins and ÌÇÐÄvlogÊÓÆµ—preparing leaders for the church, academy, and world—within a theologically diverse community.
Preferred qualifications include knowledge of United Methodist and ecumenical worship traditions, experience in pastoral leadership or chapel ministry, and the ability to teach in church music. Ordination in a Christian denomination is expected.
